The conceptual solution for petrochemical plants
The advantages?
Advantages of the concept of Total Remediation for chemical plants are:
- Extremely low remediation costs because of an integrated approach, more efficient use of existing facilities and application of in situ and on site remediation techniques.
- Time savings through more efficient procedures and processes and minimizing consultations with the authorities.
- Calamities and spills are dealt with faster and more efficiently so that the extent of the contamination and thus the remediation costs are lower.
- Fighting at the source via on-line monitoring. A number of side effects of this approach:
- improved general safety and health and safety conditions at the site
- less costs in raw materials and products
- Easier to meet legal demands.
- More insight into the behaviour of the plant.
- Eventually a clean location in the records.
How does it work?
BioSoil developed the Total Remediation concept in collaboration with representatives from the industry based on the experience obtained in remediating a number of plants. The concept is based on the given that every petrochemical plant includes several historical contaminations and that in case of calamities or spills there is always a risk of environmental consequences. Moreover, the concept is tuned to continuing production at the site. A lot of contamination is prevented by installing robust innovative alarm systems, both above and underground, in combination with other preventive measures. Consequently, the Total Remediation concept offers an extremely cost-effective solution to the legal remediation obligations. Characteristic features include:
- A Long-range plan for the remediation of historic contaminations with detailed objectives per year, ensuring:
- continuous tuning of the remediation activities to other activities at the plant (major repairs, modernization of installations, etc.)
- maximum use of the standard facilities at the plant (such as steam, compressed air, central purification)
- Support for the prevention/limitation of the environmental consequences of calamities and spills by, for example:
- instructions, the formulation of scenario's and the introduction of preventive facilities
- the strategic installation of on-line security systems based on sensor technology, above ground as well as underground.
- immediate remediation of unforeseen environmental consequences of calamities and spills, so that the spread of the contaminants is limited and the remediation effort can remain as small as possible.
- Control of the annual objectives by an independent agency
- Conduct audits and making an inventory of risk spots

World's Largest bioscreen realized in Europoort-Rotterdam28-05-2008: In May BioSoil started the realization of a bioscreen in the Port of Rotterdam (Europoort) area. The screen will have a length of about 275 meters and a depth of approx. 19 meters. These dimensions make it the biggest bioscreen in the world...
Project starts in Brasil17-11-2006. After a long preparation BioSoil International can now start with a new remediation project in Brasil. It is part of a petrochemical plant. The soil and groundwater are polluted with various organic solvents.
Licence agreements renewed26-10-2006. Some years ago, BioSoil International signed license agreements with renowned companies in Japan and Finland. Last month these agreements for the delivery of technologies, methods and additives were renewed.
