Development and optimization of sustainable soil remediation techniques.
Vision
The soil deserves sensible management with attention to soil usage and environmental aspects, such as the public health risks of a contamination, the influence of contaminants on the (soil) ecology and the risks that the contamination might spread. Consequently, removal and control of contaminants is an important aspect of such an approach. BioSoil R&D contribute to this by developing and optimizing sustainable and economically feasible remediation techniques. These are primarily based on stimulating the natural biological degradation processes that already occur in the soil. To do this, knowledge of the soil, the behaviour of contaminants and their interaction with micro organisms is extremely important. That knowledge constitutes the basis for an optimal remediation concept and for the measures to be taken to realize rapid remediation. Prompt, mutual feedback between research and application as it occurs within the BioSoil group, comprises the basis for the many successful remediation operations that have been conducted so far. This is continued in all aspects, which also includes close collaboration with the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), universities, consultancies and other innovative soil remediation companies.
